DISCOVER Mirissa
Fringed by swaying coconut palms and lapped by warm turquoise waters, Mirissa is the crown jewel of Sri Lanka’s southern coastline. Because the deep continental shelf drops off just a few nautical miles south of Dondra Point, Mirissa is one of the finest places on Earth to spot giant Blue Whales, Sperm Whales, and playful Spinner Dolphins between November and April.
On shore, travellers can photograph the iconic red-earth headland of Coconut Tree Hill, wade out to Parrot Rock at low tide, snorkel alongside wild green sea turtles at Turtle Bay, or spend an unhurried Relaxation Day sipping fresh tropical cocktails right on the sand.
